5/29/2023 0 Comments Warrior ellen oh![]() ![]() ![]() Her cousin Leo is now living with them, her sister Kelly has started a new job at a local makeup store, and Harper’s abilities have grown increasingly more powerful and uncontrollable, making her a target for possession. In book 3, Harper is dealing with a lot of new changes in her house. Now you don’t see the witch on the cover, but in the full art, you see the witch and the cursed cameo which is essential to the story. It is my favorite Spirit Hunters book AND has my favorite cover! Matt Rockefeller is a genius and has out did himself this time! Not only do we see Harper and Dayo on the cover, but he nailed the demon. I’m so excited about Spirit Hunters 3: Something Wicked. But when Harper uncovers a dangerous plot to steal youth from millions of innocent people, she must use all her powers to destroy an ancient evil and save her sister. Harper is dealing with a lot of new changes in her house. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Absolutely Eric by Erica Pike![]() You can remove the sex scenes and there’s still a romance story. If I have to choose between the two terms, it’s definitely romance. STRW: Contemporary romance or erotica? How do you see your stories?Įrica Pike: I write gay romances. It’s also the time period where a lot of gay men are finally free to be themselves by moving away from their childhood towns, so they experience life in a whole different way, make new friendships, enter the adult dating pool, and possibly find their first love. I like it because people have to learn so much during those years when they take their first steps into adulthood and everything that comes with it. ![]() ![]() STRW: Do you have a favorite age in mind for your characters?Įrica Pike: I mostly write New Adult, which means 18-25ish. Musicians are also one of my favorites, because there’s just something about a guy who can make music, be it with his voice or fingers. However, I love throwing in characters, in my other books, who are amazing cooks even if it’s just a hobby. STRW: What is your character’s favorite profession?Įrica Pike: Honestly? I love writing characters who cook, and yet the only books I’ve written that contain a professional baker is the Castor Spring series (free, because they were a part of a writing event). ![]() Check them all out, now on to our interview. She’s brought along a contest to enter and an excerpt to read. Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words is happy to have Erica Pike here today to talk about her latest release, Black Hurricane, hot rockers boys, and all things writing. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments A thousand ships haynes![]() ![]() ![]() Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. This is a must read for fans of greek mythology, especially those looking for a new perspective of a classic story. the writing provides such a vivid characterisation that, even in the shortest of chapters/stories, i felt so connected to the women. as calliope answers the pleas of a poet, she provides a compilation of the many women - goddesses, greeks, and trojans alike - whose lives were affected by the war.Īnd although this isnt told in chronological order, but rather an anthology of stories, the narrative is quite exceptional. whilst classic myths tell about the glory and conquests of men, this focuses on the often overlooked presence of women.Įlegantly written from the narration of calliope, the goddess of epic poetry, the reader is given a unique perspective that is often ignored. ![]() This retelling of the trojan war, including the actions that lead up to it and the consequences that followed, is quite refreshing. Sometimes it feels as if my hearts only purpose is to beat for greek mythology and this book is a gift, straight from zeus himself, to give me life. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments I want my hat back series![]() ![]() You know, bears may stand for adults in some way, because they’re big, they’re ungainly, they’re goofy. Indubitably hip, this will find plenty of admirers. ![]() Adults and older children will chuckle mordantly at rabbit's sudden disappearance, while young children might actually wonder, with Squirrel, where the rabbit has gone. Klassen's animation and design skills are evident on every page in this sly, subversive tale. Read aloud, this story will offer many sublime insights into how young readers comprehend an illustrated text that leaves out vital information, and will leave young sleuths reeling with theories about what just happened. A charmingly wicked little book.ĭeliberately understated, with delectable results… Skillful characterizations though they're simply drawn and have little to say, each animal emerges fully realized. St Joseph's University (Brooklyn Voices Series)Ī marvelous book in the true dictionary sense of “marvel": it is a wonderful and astonishing thing, the kind of book that makes child laugh and adult chuckle, and both smile in appreciation. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments My cousin rachel ending book![]() ![]() ![]() Ambrose is somewhat shy, and that has made him misogynistic. Philip Ashley is orphaned at a young age and raised by his cousin, Ambrose, in a male-only household. I love her books, and have seen the movies, so I welcomed the chance to compare this latest cinematic version of a classic novel. The narrator asks of Rachel, “Did she or didn’t she?” and both the actress Rachel Weisz, who plays the title role in the film, and the author of the book, Daphne du Maurier, refuse to answer.ĭaphne du Maurier was famous for gothic dramas/romances, her best known probably being Rebecca and The Birds, both made into films by Alfred Hitchcock. In both the book and the film (released last Friday), My Cousin Rachel contains an unreliable narrator, a dark romance of sorts, and an enigmatic and ambiguous heroine who may or may not be poisoning two men. ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() ![]() No wonder Alice Munro is often able to say more in thirty pages than an ordinary novelist is capable of in three hundred. A brief short story can often cover decades, summarizing a life, as she moves deftly between different periods. As the Nobel Prize presentation speech reads in part: "Reading one of Alice Munro's texts is like watching a cat walk across a laid dinner table. ![]() Sublty honed with the author's hallmark precision, grace, and compassion, these stories illuminate the ordinary but quite extraordinary particularity in the lives of men, women, and children as they discover sex, fall in love, part, quarrel, head out into the unknown, suffer defeat, find a way to be in the world. Now," Family Furnishings" will bring us twenty-five of her most accomplished, most powerfully affecting stories, most of them set in the territory she has so brilliantly made her own: the small towns and flatlands of southwestern Ontario. From the recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature-perhaps our most beloved author-a new selection of her peerless short fiction, gathered from the collections of the last two decades, a companion volume to "Selected Stories (1968-1994)."īy all accounts, no Nobel Prize in recent years has garnered the enthusiastic reception that Alice Munro's has, and in its wake, her reputation and readership has skyrocketed worldwide. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Sea of tranquility review![]() “‘I was confused by your book,’ a woman in Dallas said. Then we jump again, to a section called “Last Book Tour on Earth,” in which a celebrated author, Olive Llewellyn, makes a long series of publicity stops in 2203, answering the same questions over and over about her famous pandemic novel. From there we jump to the year 2020 and the story of Mirella, whose husband killed himself after losing everything in a Ponzi scheme. In a forest near Vancouver, he encounters a strange man dressed as a priest with an unplaceable accent. We begin by following a young man across 1912 Canada after he’s been exiled by his family in England. ![]() It’s transporting and brilliant and generous, and I haven’t ever read anything quite like it. ![]() "Sea of Tranquility" is full of grandeur, but without even a whiff of grandiosity. ![]() |
